Blackfoot in Education
Blackfoot Scholarship & FRS Youth Tour Applications
Blackfoot looks for ways to invest in the long-term success of our communities and are dedicated to supporting and providing educational opportunities for all ages. That’s why each year, Blackfoot contributes over $75,000 to educational endeavors. Looking ahead, we are excited to see the possibilities the future holds for today’s students.
Our support includes opportunities through several avenues:
- Blackfoot Scholarship: As part of our commitment to education, the Blackfoot Scholarship Fund provides academic scholarships for students from within our Montana and Idaho service areas. The scholarship program is designed for post-secondary students currently served by Blackfoot at either their parents’ residence or their own principal residence. Past scholarship awards have ranged between $500 - $1,000; and
- NTCA Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) Youth Tour Scholarship: Blackfoot annually awards 1 or 2 deserving high school students with an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. to participate in the FRS Youth Tour. This trip is open to any qualifying high school student age 16 or 17 at the time of the tour, whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) are currently served by Blackfoot. The 2019 FRS Youth Tour is scheduled for June 1-5, 2019. For more information regarding this wonderful educational opportunity, check out the FRS website at https://www.frs.org/programs/youth-programs/youth-tour; and
- Student Connection Fund: Blackfoot is proud to continue this important educational initiative to fulfill student needs identified by school leaders in the public school systems located within its service territories. We realize some families experience difficult economic times and this is Blackfoot's chance to step up with your help. Blackfoot’s Student Connection Fund has been created to fill a gap for those students with a one-time funding need up to $100. This program is open to public schools located within Blackfoot's Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) footprint in its Montana and Idaho rural service territories; and
- NTCA Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) Scholarships: In 2019, FRS will be awarding $125,000 in scholarships in honor of the Foundation’s 25th anniversary. Each year, the Foundation gives out $2,500 scholarships to an exceptional group of rural students for their first year of college or vocational school. Additionally, several named scholarships (see FRS website for entire list) are given to a select group of the over 1,500 applicants. All applicants require sponsorship by an NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association member company (which must commit to a $500 match for each winning student) to be eligible. BLACKFOOT IS YOUR SPONSORING MEMBER COMPANY. FRS has awarded over $1 million in scholarships since its inception; empowering rural students throughout the country to advance their communities with invaluable skillsets and experiences. Please note the student application must be sent to Blackfoot for the sponsor signature.
